On the Performance of (1; )-evolution Strategies at the Ridge Function Class
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper presents the N-dependent analysis of the (1;) Evolution Strategy (ES) with isotropic mutations at the ridge functions including the special cases sharp and parabolic ridge. The new approach presented allows for the prediction of the dynamics in ridge direction as well as in radial direction. The central quantities are the corresponding progress rates which are determined in terms of analytical expressions. Its predictive quality is evaluated by ES simulations and the steady state behavior is discussed in detail.

متن کاملCumulative Step Length Adaptation on Ridge Functions
The ridge function class is a parameterised family of test functions that is often used to evaluate the capabilities and limitations of optimisation strategies. Past research with the goal of analytically determining the performance of evolution strategies on the ridge has focused either on the parabolic case or on simple one-parent strategies without step length adaptation. This paper extends ...
متن کاملSelf-adaptation on the Ridge Function Class: First Results for the Sharp Ridge
This paper presents first results of an analysis of the σ-self-adaptation mechanism on the sharp ridge for non-recombinative (1, λ) evolution strategies (ES). To analyze the ES’s evolution, we consider the so-called evolution equations which describe the one-generation change. Neglecting stochastic perturbations and considering only the mean value dynamics, we will investigate possible causes w...
متن کاملThe Effect of Valve Lift on In-Cylinder Flow, Performance and Emissions in a Turbocharged DI Diesel Engine
A computational optimization was performed for a direct-injection diesel engine using three-dimensional modeling. Fully transient CFD analyses of different valve profile strategies for the intake and compression strokes were performed to evaluate the effects on both engine performance and in-cylinder flow-field evolution. The turbulence model was used along with the second order linear upwin...
متن کاملTHE CMA EVOLUTION STRATEGY BASED SIZE OPTIMIZATION OF TRUSS STRUCTURES
Evolution Strategies (ES) are a class of Evolutionary Algorithms based on Gaussian mutation and deterministic selection. Gaussian mutation captures pair-wise dependencies between the variables through a covariance matrix. Covariance Matrix Adaptation (CMA) is a method to update this covariance matrix. In this paper, the CMA-ES, which has found many applications in solving continuous optimizatio...
